Holcim Bulgaria part of the globally acting LafargeHolcim Cement Group ordered a SpectraFlow Airslide Analyzer for optimizing the Raw Material Grinding for their Beli Izvor plant in Western Bulgaria. This order is the second within the LafargeHolcim Cement group and the first installation in Bulgaria. This project will replace the existing PGNAA analyzer to safe operation costs, improve the ecological footprint by eliminating any radioactive sources and improve the performance of the raw material grinding. This is inline with the 2019 started initiative “Plants of Tomorrow”, which should improve the efficiency of plants by 15% to 20% by using the latest technologies.


About Holcim Beli Izvor:

The Beli Izvor plant started operation in 1960 and was privatized in 1997 by Holcim Ltd. Since 1997 Holcim invested more than 140 Mio EUR into the modernization of the plant. In 2006 the first project to increase the production from 1400 to 2500 t clinker/d was completed, followed by another capacity increase in 2008 to 3300 t clinker/d.


Due to the modernization of the cement plant the usage of alternative fuels was intensified. Nowadays multiple waste materials incl. used tires, animal meal, solid combustible waste are used to fire the kiln.


Beside the cement plant in Beli Izvor Holcim Bulgaria operated concrete plants in Sofia, Plovdiv and other key centers. All plants are state of the art and deliver products of the highest standards to its customers.


Today LafargeHolcim operates about 270 integrated cement plants and grinding stations across more than 50 countries in the world and is therefore the largest cement producer. Beside cement LafargeHolcim is also active in Aggregates, Ready-Mix Concrete and Solutions & Products.


SpectraFlow Installation for Raw Material Grinding Optimization:


The SpectraFlow Airslide Analyzer is the online analyzer to be able to measure raw materials in airslides. As raw materials in airslides are very homogeneous and dry the analytical results of the SpectraFlow Airslide Analyzer are very accurate and based on these accurate results the RMP control software can optimize the weight feeders before the raw mill in real time every minute. This results in very low LSF STDEV without the need of extensive sampling and laboratory efforts.


By using SpectraFlow an increase in the raw meal quality will be achieved.

The analyzer together with the RMP Raw Mix Proportioning control software is fully automating the raw material grinding. The analyzer delivers the analytical results and according the setpoint the software is adjusting the weight feeders of the additive bins.

This SpectraFlow order is the 35th order for the Cement Industry and the 11th installation in Europe. This order raises the installed based in Bulgaria to 1 analyzer (1 Airslide) and worldwide to 47 analyzers (24 Crossbelt & 23 Airslide).
