SPECTRAFLOW ANALYTICS RECEIVES A NEW ORDER FOR ONE CROSSBELT ANALYZERS FROM HINDALCO BELAGAVI REFINERY, INDIA

SpectraFlow Analytics has secured an order for a SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer from Hindalco, part of the Aditya Birla Group. The analyzer will be deployed at the Belagavi Alumina refinery in Karnataka, India. This order marks the first installation for both Hindalco and the Aditya Birla Group.

As the leading supplier of online bauxite ore analyzers, SpectraFlow is uniquely capable of measuring organics and mineral phases. This allows for the direct measurement of both available Alumina and reactive Silica. With this installation, India joins Australia, China, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia on the map of SpectraFlow bauxite applications.

Beyond bauxite, SpectraFlow provides online analytical solutions for the cement, iron ore, gold, platinum, copper, potash, phosphate, and recycling industries. This order increases SpectraFlow’s global footprint to over 100 analyzers (60% Crossbelt & 40% Airslide) across 30 countries.

About Hindalco Industries

Established in 1958 as the Hindustan Aluminium Company, Hindalco has grown from its origins in Renukoot to become a global leader in aluminum, copper, and power generation. Following the 2007 acquisition of Novelis, Hindalco now operates 50 manufacturing units across 10 countries with 40,000 employees. It is Asia’s largest producer of primary aluminum (excluding China) and India’s leading copper producer.

The Belagavi site, commissioned in 1969, is India’s premier specialty alumina plant and hosts a world-class research center. Using the Bayer process, the site produces over 120 specialty products—including Calcined Coarse Alumina and Fine Hydrates—serving sectors such as ceramics, glass, and water treatment.

SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer for Bauxite Feed Control

The SpectraFlow Crossbelt Analyzer provides high-frequency, online measurement of raw materials on conveyor belts. As crushed material becomes statistically homogeneous, the analyzer delivers highly accurate data, enabling continuous monitoring of Run-of-Mine (ROM) feed and allowing for immediate operational adjustments.

At the Belagavi site, the analyzer will be positioned after the secondary crusher. By analyzing a mix of international and domestic bauxites in real time, the system will optimize material blending to the mills and refine caustic dosing based on feed composition.

Key Benefits of the SpectraFlow Analyzer:

  • Mineral Phase Analysis: Utilizes NIR technology for real-time measurement of reactive vs. total silica and available alumina (THA) vs. total alumina.

  • High Measurement Frequency: Captures data every 420 ms (150 measurements per minute).

  • Real-Time Data Output: Provides immediate results without the lag of averages or running averages.

  • Comprehensive Analysis: Monitors elements, mineral phases, and organic compounds simultaneously.

  • Ease of Use: Simplified installation, operation, and maintenance.

  • Safety & Compliance: Completely free of radioactive sources or neutron generators. No permits or licenses are required for import, operation, or maintenance.

  • Enhanced ROM Monitoring: Enables the processing of highly variable raw materials while maintaining consistent plant feed quality.

SpectraFlow Analytics Ltd. (Switzerland) specializes in safe, non-radioactive online analysis for the cement and minerals industries. Our NIR technology eliminates regulatory hurdles, resulting in low operating costs, high availability, and superior measurement accuracy.
